Christina Carr started this petition to Janice Morreale and

Making the program schools, Scholars, Academy of Arts Science and Technology, Academy for Technology and Academics their own schools would separate them from the base schools. This would create a fair playing ground for the students at the base schools (Carolina Forest, Myrtle Beach, St. James, Socastee etc.) Current our base students have to compete against these program schools that have greater opportunities for their students to take higher weighted classes earlier which puts them at an advantage therefore putting our students at a disadvantage. We need to push for the separation to create an even playing field for our kids.
Also most of these students that attend program schools do not participate in our activities by choice but in the end graduate with our schools name o their diploma and are ranked with our kids. Most don’t participate in sports at the base school don’t participate in awards, homecoming, picture in our yearbook, various activities that make our schools great. Unless they are valedictorian or salutatorian they generally don’t show up. Now there are few that participate in sports so not saying none participate but the majority do not. If they became their own school I believe that they should still be able to participate in our sports if they do not develop their own just like Early College does.
