Join in an appeal to the kindness of those in power in the State of Maine.  This proposal seeks to change the special education disability in State Law from "Emotionally Disturbed" to "Emotional Disability."  This simple change, from Disturbed to Disability, reduces the stigma of mental health.

Support all students in the State of Maine to recognize students first- no one is disturbed: your students aren't disturbed, and your child isn't disturbed. Use language that helps promote hope, healing, and respect. 

When IEP teams have to use a "label" to reflect the need for specialized support, let them choose one that inflicts the least harm. 

Over 20 states have already done so- it is Maine's turn now.
