Make Maine drive-thrus more accessible to deaf and hard of hearing customers
Make Maine drive-thrus more accessible to deaf and hard of hearing customers
Why this petition matters

Recently, we came across this video of a Deaf man attempting to order a meal at a drive-thru window. In this video, he had typed out everything that he wanted and attempted to place his order with employees. Unfortunately, these employees were lacking in skills to communicate with him and thought he was lying about being Deaf. This resulted in him waiting for over a half-hour and having his meal thrown away. This sheds a huge light on the problem there is regarding the accessibility of drive-thrus for the Deaf and hard of hearing (HOH) community. If you would like to view this video, it is listed at the bottom of this petition or you can click here.
The goal of this petition is to shed light on the lack of accessible drive-thru restaurants as well as a lack of training on how to interact with Deaf and HOH customers. By signing this petition, you will be urging the state of Maine to require all restaurants, especially those with drive-thru windows, to train their employees on the proper way to interact and communicate with Deaf and HOH customers, as well as making the drive-thru process an accessible experience for everyone.
