Equestrians- Keep our trails at Goddard Park
0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!
In 1927 the son and daughter of Colonel Robert Hale Ives Goddard donated
one of the family estates to be a state park in memory of their father. Colonel Goddard 1837-1916 was the son of William G. Goddard, first Chancellor of Brown University and Charlotte Rhoda Ives Goddard.
This gift of Goddard State Park has since provided a number of features for many to enjoy. One of them is the equestrian show area and 18 miles of trails.
Now there is a petition circulating asking DEM to allow cross country high school kids to run on the trails. Which is fine - they should enjoy them too. No reason we all can’t enjoy them. However some of the language in that petition is concerning:
“ 3) Equestrian riders account for less than 1/10th of one percent of park users. If equines are included in the computation, the percentage would increase to 1/5th of one percent, though it is not clear whether the horses themselves are considered “park users.”
Now I feel that our equestrian community is larger but regardless, we are significant - so please sing this petition!
I know I am a park user and so is my horse!
So please if you want to keep riding our beautiful equestrian trails, which is also a historic piece of the Goddard Park beauty we enjoy - please sign this petition !
