Why this petition matters

Started by Shaunna Leinster

It's time to put an end to clothing with negative and degrading slogans for our children.

You know the saying, you are what you eat? Well, that goes for what we dress in, too. Have you ever been in a bad mood, but then you put on a fancy dress, slap on some make-up and instantly you're smiling and uplifted? When we drape our children with words that read, "I'll never finish anything", "#big-trouble", and "I hate being late, but I'm so good at it", we are instantly telling them that that is their truth.

The problem is, we're being brainwashed by our society that this is how kids are: lazy, rude, outspoken, trouble makers, never on time, and will never amount to anything. When you constantly tell a child, "this is how you are", they believe it. You've spoken it out into the universe. And though we may not necessarily be speaking these words to them, we are putting them on them like a big sign to the universe. And they will eventually become that thing. We are so careful, sometimes, to speak life and truth to our children, so why let their clothing reflect the opposite?

I'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty for the clothing choices they make for their children, but what I do want, is for big companies like, The Children's Place, to change their negative slogans on their clothing to positive, uplifting words that will help our kids believe that they are the beautiful and wonderfully made beings God created them as.
