Discrimination Against People With Disabilities

As a part of our social action for Stage 2 Society and Culture, we have decided to focus on Disability Discrimination. The current lack of rights for Australians with a disability is a big concern. The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 secures protection for individuals throughout Australia from unfair treatment in all parts of their life. The Act makes disability discrimination unlawful and promotes equal rights, equal opportunity and equal access for people with disabilities. However, although this Act was passed in 1992, disability discrimination is still evident in society today in the areas of education and employment together with a lack of additional support, for example in finding work.
This petition will be sent to the Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, Hon. Jane Prentice. This petition calls for the Government to provide more support, awareness, and opportunities for those who live with severe disabilities.
