Senator Jane Nelson,
I am writing your office today as a constituent of District 12. My reason for writing you is to speak on a issue of concern for my fellow military Veterans in Texas and myself. The great state of Texas has many Veterans who have given time out of their lives in honor and duty to their country. We are talking blood, sweat, and many tears in dedication to upholding the values of America. Texas currently has over 1.6 million Veterans according to VA.GOV. Many of these Veterans are dealing with issues from their time in service. PTSD, homelessness, joblessness, and many other issues face these heroes. Some Veterans are living on fixed incomes due to injuries sustained while in service. With these hardships that many Americans face we see that at times the disabled Veterans are in need of added relief to assist them in making ends meet.
This being the current state of affairs of Veterans in Texas, I write to you to request a removal of fees on all NTTA toll roads for the disabled Veterans. I am directly speaking of those who have received assigned plates from the Texas DOT. This will fall in line with the waiver of fees and tolls on all other toll roads, toll bridges, and airport parking within Texas.
The savings of hundreds of dollars a year for disabled Veterans will be a big boost to their personal outlooks. A good portion of the money saved will be put back into the Texas economy strengthening commerce.
Senator Nelson I ask for you to weigh in with your foresight and opinion and to join us in petitioning and also leading a charge for change in getting legislation passed to stop the current fees and tolls on disabled veterans on the NTTA.
