Support Irish Teachers - Equal Pay for Equal Work

This petition had 3,488 supporters

Same work - Less pay! Primary and Secondary School teachers in Ireland are not being paid equally for the work they do. As it stands there are currently three different pay scales. How much you earn determined (unfairly) by the year in which you graduated. This has left many teacher being paid less for doing the same work as their colleagues (if not more work - given that teaching jobs are difficult to find, many Newly Qualified Teachers feel pressured to prove their worth and as a result many take on additional unpaid extra-curricular work). Given that Newly Qualified Teachers make up the minority of the teaching population, it is often difficult to find support from colleagues and unions. Will you support equal pay for equal work? Would you be happy knowing you are paid less than your colleagues simply because you graduated in 'the wrong year'? Please support our cause by signing and sharing our petition. Thank you.
