1.5 tonnes of waste is produced every year by Australia out of this 80% of plastics end up in landfill every year and only 9% is actually recycled. They're many impacts that are a result of this; climate change, lack of resources- decreases the globes sustainability, Pollution affects ecosystems and habitats especially in our oceans- the Great barrier reef is dying at a high rate- study shows that this will be gone by 2050- causing disruptions to the spheres and biodiversity. Even if a small amount is collected- this will change patterns in these impacts and possibly stop it before its too late. The school can also benefit from campaigns such as 'return and earn' contributing to school funding.
