Mayor Al Kurpis, of the Borough of Saddle River, has previously requested the County Executive of Bergen to reduce speed limits on County Roads within the Borough from 40 MPH to 35 MPH.  The County Executive has denied this request, stating that traffic studies were completed and the findings did not warrant a reduction of speed limits on the subject roads.  The County roads within the municipality consist of approximately 20 miles and include East Allendale Road, West Saddle River Road, East Saddle River Road, Chestnut Ridge Road/County Road and Woodcliff Lake Road.  The County roads serve as commuter and through roads within the municipality and the increased deer population has resulted in more animal-vehicle collisions.  Additionally, land use has become less rural and commuter traffic patterns have increased traffic. There are no sidewalks and cyclists, pedestrians and runners use a minimum shoulder and share the roadway. Two schools exist on County roads in Saddle River and there are no street lights on roadways except at intersections and in the downtown area.   It is for all of these reasons that we strongly request that the speed limit on County roads within the Borough of Saddle River be reduced from 40 MPH to 35 MPH. Please help make Saddle River a safer community by signing this petition!
