Stop the closing of Templeton field

This petition had 255 supporters

This is a petition to prevent the closure of Templeton grass field in the months of July to September.

The members of this community feel strongly that closing the field deprives us of a public space that is enjoyed by many during the summer months. There are many groups of people that use this field such as young families with small children and babies, dog owners, couples, sports-minded youth and seniors.

Last year when the field was closed from June to late September 2014, the field workers worked on it for less than 5 days while it was fenced in and the grass had overgrown up to knee height and had destroyed the grass in the field.

Recently, we have had incidents of field workers being rude to residents of the community and treating us as trespassers—this is terribly insulting to us who treat this area with care and respect.

As a community, this is how we contribute to the welfare of the Templeton field throughout the year and especially during the summer months (when the school is closed).

  • We pick up litter in and around the field.
  • We pick up dog poop and encourage dog owners to monitor their dogs.
  • We report destructive or loud behaviour to the police.
  • We report suspicious activity to the police.

We encourage the school and the VSB to work with Templeton community to find solutions to problems rather than alienating a neighbourhood that is working to keep it clean, respectable and vibrant. This field helps us keep an active lifestyle, keeps us social while solidifying our bond as a community.
