Parents in Vic to be given an option to keep children home for the remainder of term 4.
Since term 3 in Victoria most children have been learning remotely to limit the number of people moving around our state every day to help slow the spread of coronavirus.
The Premier has recently advised that there will be a staggered return to on-site learning at government schools from next week.
Children under 12 are unable to be vaccinated and some parents and teachers haven't even had the opportunity to have both doses of vaccines. In short, the Government is using our children as 'test dummies' to see what happens.
Schools and classes will be in and out of lockdown as the proposed return of schools will line up with when Victoria is expected to reach peak cases. Already, most of the exposure sites are childcare centres or schools and this is without most of the children attending.
Masks are now required for grade 3 and above, if the risk is so high that masks are required then parents should have an option to keep children home.
Parents hands should not be forced to send their children back to school if it means putting them and the broader community at risk. There should be an option to keep children at home for the rest of term 4 or send children to school. This will help alleviate pressure on teachers, our hospital system and give vaccines rates the chance to catch up.
Why have we kept our children home all this time and now have to send them back when the cases in Victoria are worse than ever?
