Make America Green Again
Make America Green Again
Today over 57 percent of Americans favor the legalization of recreational marijuana. “More than 43 percent of U.S. residents surveyed admit to having tried marijuana at least once in their lives, and nearly 20 million to having used it in the past month” (Noel Merino). Support legalized use of recreational marijuana, because it allows marijuana to be properly regulated, can bring in high revenue, and has little to no health concerns.
Recreational use of marijuana should be legalized so that it can be taken out of the wrong hands. Too often children have been granted access to this substance which will ultimately steer them in the wrong direction, ending with the result of time in prison. Each day, several young people are being charged with possession of marijuana, affecting their chances to contribute to the growth in society. The United States would be able to keep track of how much marijuana is being circulated throughout the country, and its locations; a complete paper trail will be provided.
Marijuana should be making us money, not costing us money. The number of people incarcerated for marijuana-based offenses are far greater than the ones for rape, murder, and aggravated assault combined; consequently resulting in tax dollars being spent for prisoners. If the United States would legalize the recreational use of marijuana, it would be taxed and the government would profit. The legalized use of recreational marijuana could be the possible resolution of our country’s debt over time.
People who oppose the use of recreational marijuana feel that this substance isn’t alcohol or tobacco; that is a fact! The use of tobacco and alcohol has killed several people, yet the government continues to allow these substances to be legal. The constant use of alcohol causes liver cancer. Also, several individuals have fallen subjective to making bad decisions enhanced by alcohol. The use of tobacco causes lung cancer, gum decay, and gum disease. Marijuana has been prescribed to help chronic medical conditions in the past and present. Alzheimer's disease, cancer, Crohn's disease, epilepsy, other mental health conditions, and many more are treated with marijuana.
Support the legal use of recreational marijuana so that we can build the youth, reverse the country’s debt and provide research for medicinal use.
