In the last few months, New York City has faced over 200,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in over 20,000 deaths. We’ve already seen the pandemic’s devastating effect on our ability to vote in the June Primary and the disproportionate impact it’s had on at-risk populations in our community.

As our elected officials struggle to roll out comprehensive vote-by-mail programs, there is a clear need for expanded early voting facilities with adequate space to allow voters to maintain recommended social distancing practices and avoid hours-long lines as they cast their vote.

This challenge presents a unique opportunity for the New York Knicks, New York Rangers & Madison Square Garden and Brooklyn Nets & the Barclays Center to show leadership - both in our city and around the country. We ask that the Knicks, Rangers & Madison Square Garden and Nets & the Barclays Center follow the example of the Atlanta Hawks & State Farm Arena and commit your facilities as early voting locations ahead of the November elections.

It would save the lives of countless New Yorkers, re-enfranchise those who otherwise might not be able to vote safely on election day, and align with your long-standing commitment to social justice.
