Ethiopia Day in Jamaica started this petition to Jamaica Tourist Board

April 21, 1966 marks the date that the last King of Ethiopia His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie paid a visit to the island of Jamaica. To this day, Haile Selassie continues to be a prominent figure among Africans, Ethiopians and Jamaicans. This day in history marks a pivotal moment not only for the people of Jamaica but particularly the members of Rastafari, also spelled Ras Tafari, a religious and political movement, begun in Jamaica in the 1930's and adopted by many groups around the globe, combining Protestant Christianity, mysticism, and a pan-African political consciousness.

The African diaspora and the Rastafari community will unite in one venue on the island of Jamaica April the 23rd to the 25th. Catherine Hall in Montego Bay is popularly recognized as a key venue for large-stage events like Reggae Sumfest hosting 30,000 visitors at one time. The date for Royal Fest Ethiopian Day (R) in Jamaica has been hand-picked to commemorate the welcoming of Haile Selassie I to Jamaica by the country's nationals and devout Rasta community. Live music, vendors, local entertainment, and sponsored footprints will attract a mixture of both Jamaican music lovers and East African music enthusiasts in one venue for three nights.

We need your help to make Ethiopia Day in Jamaica a success. Please assist us in acquiring 15,000 signatures to make this 3-day celebration a reality. We welcome all people with an open mind and sincere heart to pledge their signature. Every share counts! We recognize the importance of using our voices cohesively to create an impact on this generation. Sign & share today!
