A former New Zealand Taranaki police sergeant has been charged on three accounts of sexual assault. He is now only facing 8 months of home detention. As kiwis, we find this unacceptable.

Kimberlee Frederick Knight Vollmer had touched one woman's bottom and rubbed his erect penis against another victim while hugging her, the New Plymouth District Court heard on Monday. He also pulled down the top of another victim and tried to lick her breast, and on a separate occasion pushed the same woman against the wall and kissed her neck and mouth.

Furthermore, on 96 occasions he accessed the police computer system to source confidential details of four women, one of whom was a complainant of the sexual offending.

Vollmer pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault and four of accessing the police computer system for dishonest reasons at an earlier hearing. Judge Stephen Harrop said the pre-sentence report recommended imprisonment, but he handed down an end sentence of eight months' home detention and ordered Vollmer pay each victim $500 emotional harm reparation.

EIGHT MONTHS OF HOME DETENTION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. AS A COUNTRY WE DESERVE JUSTICE OF THE SAFTEY AND PROTECTION OF OUR WOMEN. THE MAN NEEDS TO BE JAILED, STRIPPED OF HIS TITLE AND PUT AWAY. Stop letting men of power use there position to abuse women. As a country we are better than that.
