Insuring the Safety of Canal Communities & Neighbors, living below these unsafe embankments, should be almost automatic, but sadly it is not. Public safety should never be a topic that comes under debate. It should never be reduced to a "popularity contest", which isn't common sense, and is not advancing the safety of the canal or its neighbors.

Social media misinformation is trying to change the topic away from Public Safety and insist the issue is environmental. It's time for the residents in canal communites, and neighbors living in danger of these crumbling earthen dams, to take back the conversation and work together to restore integrity to the Canal System, and their neighborhoods along the Erie Canal

I believe few, if any, inspections have taken place to the embankment dam in many years. It appears that the only way to insure that the walls are not affected is to remove the many cottonwood trees and the dead trunks, braches, and vines along the banks. Future maintenance needs to keep excess growth from impacting the integrity of the embankment dam.

Fighting FOR safety seems to be the most REASONABLE course of action to take, so why are so many on the East Side of Rochester trying to stop a much needed repair. Very little concern for their neighbors who have homes along the bottom of the embankment..shameful

It is comparative that this maintenance be done. But I Hope they will leave the canal aesthetically pleasing.
