Eric Butkovich, 47, was driving on I70 with his family, near Woods Chapel Road on May 13, 2017 around 3:30pm when he struck a vehicle on the right shoulder of the road, killing Adrienne Afrisio and injuring a tow truck driver, Jake Wayne.
Adrienne Afrisio's vehicle had broken down and was being loaded onto a tow truck on a busy stretch of the interstate.
Prosecutors are charging him with a misdemeanor. They say he wasn't driving drunk, wasn't on drugs, and wasn't speeding.
Jackson county prosecutors have charged him with failure to drive in a single lane and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle.
This accident could've been caused my numerous distractions, including possibly using a cellphone.
This accident has also left two children as orphans. They lost their father last year.
We want to see harsher charges filed against Eric Butkovivh. We, members of the community, feel this shouldn't slide because he is an assistant Jackson County Missouri prosecutor. We feel strongly that this is the case.
