Recently the City of Ft. Lauderdale approved a new city ordinance that effectively bans public food sharing. In short, the long list of requirements necessary to feed the homeless in public spaces, without breaking the law, is nearly impossible to obtain.
On Sunday, Arnold Abbott, 90, who has been feeding the homeless in Fort Lauderdale for more than 20 years, 2 Christian ministers Dwayne Black and Mark Sims and others involved were cited a $500 fine and face up to 60 days in jail when Not For Profit Organization, Love Thy Neighbor showed up at Stranahan Park for regularly scheduled food service, to feed long lines of hungry, homeless people.
