Remove GST on essential menstrual sanitary products in New Zealand.

Remove GST on essential menstrual sanitary products in New Zealand.
Why this petition matters
The average Kiwi woman spends around $2400 in GST on menstrual products in her lifetime. This monthly purchase is a necessity. However, the extra 15% added to the total is not. With other personal products such as condoms and bandages exempt from GST, mensural products should not be considered a luxury. The following petition is aiming to influence the taxation being removed from necessity sanitary products, it is unfair that women are having to pay for a natural bodily function.
Period poverty in New Zealand has turned into a massive issue, with girls having to stay home from school or work due to being unable to purchase these products. They are making make-shift items out of phone books, tissues, and cloth which are hazardous to their health as this is a sensitive area prone to infection. This damages not only girls physical health but their mental health too.
By signing this petition you will be contributing to eliminating the GST on female sanitary products, taking a stand to fight for the rights of all females in your life. As a society, it is important to stand up for one another, especially those who cannot stand up for themselves.
Once completed, this petition will be sent to PM Jacinda Ardern, as well as many other influential ministers in New Zealand.
