Give Auckland a break from MIQ
Aucklanders are constantly on edge with the fear of total lockdown. The time has come for the team of 1.6m to be backed by the rest of the country, and the responsibilities of MIQ to be moved to Wellington or Christchurch, and Aucklanders given a rest.
We are asking for a 6 month moratorium on people being housed in Auckland MIQ facilities to help with the mental health of the people living here. Given that Auckland is the financial powerhouse of the country, having constant lockdowns is wrecking the economy. Having 1.6m in lockdown, opposed to 400k in Christchurch or 750k in Wellington is not only risking health outcomes, but also the countries ability to dig ourselves financially out of the hole we are in.
Quarantine stations in the past, were typically not in the center of cities, see Sydney and New York for example. By placing them in the CBD, the government is risking everyone's health, and therefore these facilities need to be moved. A first step is away from Auckland.
