Endometriosis is a common inflammatory disease that affects 176 million girls and women worldwide, and 120,000 in New Zealand. That means roughly 1 in 10 women in NZ are suffering with Endometriosis, dealing with symptoms such as pelvic pain, irregular or heavy periods, bowel problems, painful intercourse, chronic fatigue, PMS, bladder troubles and infertility. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium), is found in places outside of the uterus. This tissue can be found on the uterus, ovaries, bowels and other organs.

It takes on average 7-8 years to get a diagnosis for Endometriosis. That means 7-8 years of unanswered suffering for these young girls and women. There is no cure for endometriosis. There are treatments such as excision surgeries to remove the adhesions and hormone therapies, but there will never be a cure.

Endometriosis can only be definitely diagnosed by a laparoscopy (key hole) surgery, done under general anesthetic. Due to the public health system, many women find it very hard to get these surgeries, or excision surgeries they desperately need. Too many New Zealand women are being denied by the public health system and are not able to get the medical attention required. Many are not even able to be seen by gynecologists in the public health system, which is a dire need for all women. Gynecologists offer the best help for the condition and are able to perform these drastically important surgeries, but getting into the system to be seen by one is a great difficulty on its own.

New Zealand needs to step up. Endometriosis receives no funding in this country, a condition that needs its support. 120,000 women are suffering in NZ because they aren't able to get the support they need through the public health system. This is a lifelong, horrible condition and no woman should suffer their whole lives because of the public health system.

Please sign this petition to help Endometriosis gain the attention it needs. Jacinda Arden, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, the public health system needs to change, kiwi women need your support. We need you to stand with us, too many women are suffering with no solutions, no professional help. Endometriosis desperately needs funding, we desperately need these resources that are too difficult to come by in this system.

Please help us make a change.
