The proposed 3 waters reform intends to give 50% of the voting rights on where future houses will be built to some of NZ’s biggest property development corporations. By controlling 50% of the 3 waters votes these corporations will have a monopoly on choosing where future residential development occurs (ie only on their land) leading to increased costs to families for residentialhousing land the likes we’ve never seen.

Given some of these corporations are already some of NZ’s biggest residential land developers it’s not hard to imagine their 50% vote being used to ensure they are the only residential land developers with access to existing and future 3 waters infrastructure. The current government has already allowed rampant residential price inflation to occur shutting out almost an entire generation from owning their own home, this 3 waters proposal will continue that for generations to come.

We ask Jacinda Adern & the NZ Labour government to halt the 3 waters proposal and leave the assets with the communities that already own them.
