House Bill 3563, also known as the Pretrial Fairness Act or the new Illinois criminal justice package, is vital to racial justice and fairness among all citizens, even police officers, of the state of Illinois. So many people have a misunderstanding of it and think of it as a detriment to our society, when in reality, it will raise up those most in need of assistance and those who have been hurt by our faulty criminal justice system. Some of the provisions in this bill include: ending monetary (cash) bail, eliminating provisions of "qualified immunity" of police, allowing those who are detained to make three free phone calls upon arrival at a police station, and being able to access their phone for contacts, banning certain militaristic equipment for police departments, adding databases for police misconduct, and many other detainee's rights, court reforms, and other provisions.
