The stay at home order issued by J.B. Pritzker through May 30th (and possibly longer) has cut summer short for students across the state. Staying indoors and not seeing friends is a teen's worst nightmare, especially during the summer. School goes basically year round, with a short summer break where teenagers make life-long memories and have great experiences. And because of the stay at home order, it has been cut even shorter.

SD308 was set to go back to school August 19th, with many other school districts around the same time frame. This is the warmest part of the summer - a great time for pool parties, and being outside enjoying the weather. Schools across the state get out of school too early and go back too early. If summer vacation is shifted back a few weeks, then teens will be able to have great summer experiences outside in the nice weather.

Now is the perfect time to make this happen. If schools make summer vacation a little longer this year, and then we will be able to start enjoying August outdoors, not in classrooms.
