You are a law abiding citizen and contributor to society with no legal trouble. One night someone kicks in your door after midnight brandishing a weapon wearing regular street clothes and screaming words that you can’t understand. You are in bed. You happen to own a legally registered gun and have it next to your bed at night. Startled and afraid for your life you reach for the gun box and grab the gun. You race to the bedroom door and you see the strangers in plain clothes with guns. What would you do next?

Would you ask the intruders are they the police? Would you even think this is a possibility of them being the police (since you are a law abiding citizen)? Would you ask them are they home invaders? Would you ask them why they are in your home with guns? Would you ask any questions at all? You have a gun, they have guns. The likelihood this is a home invasion is high, remember you are a law abiding citizen.

With out considering anything but saving your family you shoot and injure all of the strangers. Then as you call 911 and notify them of a home invasion more officers arrive with their guns drawn and place you under arrest for shooting police officers.

They never initially announced themselves as police, they kicked in your door but it turns out they were supposed to be at the house on the south side of town, 1111 s Anywhere Dr not 1111 n Anywhere Dr. Because of a mix up the police used a no knock warrant to kick in your door accidentally. You didn’t understand what they were saying bc they were screaming some other persons name you had never heard. And now the courts have to determine if you’ve just committed a felony.

This is a dramatization based on some real life events. The point is the risk of a no knock warrant out weighs the reward. Let’s end no knock warrants in Illinois!
