Childhood Obesity had continued to be a large problem all over the United States but especially in Illinois where children have one of the highest rates in the country. It can cause other serious health problems as well not only in childhood but well into adulthood. While there are many factors that contribute to childhood obesity one that deserves more attention, the lack of nutritional foods in school meals. There have been efforts to improve the quality of school meals by the USDA through regulations outlined in the National School Lunch and Breakfast program but they have proved to be lacking in some areas. While it does recommend more vegetables and fruits in students diets it fails to limit sugar in school lunches. Illinois should limit the sugar in school meals.
