This petition is to bring awareness to the devastating loss felt by the nursing students upon the departure of Professor Alecia Gowen from ITCC Lake County.  Upon admission to the nursing program, applicants are told about the solid foundation of knowledge that needed to be built to become a good nurse. "Like a solid home, you need to start with a solid foundation," we were told. That is exactly what Professor Gowen epitomizes. 

Professor Gowen made sure that our cohort knew we were the "babies", and that there were not only a plethora of professors and staff, but other students able to support us on our journey. We were always taught not only the theories of health care, but also how it applies to real world scenarios. If you did not understand a concept, she would work with you until you did. She teaches through experience and a solid sense of humor. There is no doubt that Professor Gowen cares deeply about her students, and she is dedicated to their success as proficient RNs and LPNs. 

Quality education begins with quality professors, and Alecia Gowen is the highest QUALITY.
