Petitioning a TV programme seems absurd, but it's indisputable that Love Island has become a behemoth of a socio-cultural talking point.

Millions of us are grateful for the entertainment that you've provided. However, the news that just 6 of the 36 islanders this year actually applied is a huge insult to the public. When you've had almost 100,000 applicants, and choose just 6 of them but invite the other 5/6 of islanders implies a hideous hierachical ideology. You give the message that only models with enormous pre-existing popularity are worth watching and deserving of love. Yet much of the public is sick of shallow attitudes that value people by appearance - or are even made inescapably anxious about themselves. Why not take more applicants who are inspired enough to apply themselves, and who are slightly more diverse and relateable?

Many teenagers watch - is it necessary to include games that force discussion about sex positions? Individuals choosing to discuss sex, like Maura, should be entitled to; but activities that force all islanders to be explicit, compromise sexual autonomy. Consider that some young people will feel obliged to allow things to be done to their bodies that they wouldn't have chosen, because of the message you're giving. Further, some teens will be banned from watching it by their parents because of this gratuitousness - and some adults are put off the programme because of it. Why not simply replace these parts of games with other comedic tasks, to expand your audience and reduce the potential for regret and stigma that islanders might later face?

Further - by supporting fast fashion brands, you're aiding a corporate monster that's destroying the planet and the lives of the most vulnerable in humanity. Increasingly many of your audience are painfully concerned about this. Love Island is not loving when it serves to encourage harm to our world and to the most exploited workers. Why not instead work with more ethical organisations?

Whilst your viewership is healthy, many are growing weary of lack of authenticity, and Generation Z are passionate about Global issues. Would you please consider the impact that your work has on innumerable members of society - if not out of the goodness of your hearts then out of business sense?

Huge thanks
