Prosecute the Wisconsin coyote hunter who killed two dogs

The coyote hunter who shot and killed two of four dogs on Friday, Jan. 22 in while walking in the Badfish Creek Wildlife Area should be prosecuted for felony mistreatment of animals. The four dogs were wearing reflective vests, and their veterinarian owner points out that large dogs do not run like coyotes; they are heavier and louder and don't sound anything like coyotes.

It is reckless to shoot something when you don’t know what you are shooting, which is why this case should be prosecuted as a Class I felony.

The veterinary and dog-loving communities in Wisconsin request that the shooter be prosecuted under the following section:

"Class I Felony under 951.02.  and 951.18

951.02  Mistreating animals. No person may treat any animal, whether belonging to the person or another, in a cruel manner. This section does not prohibit normal and accepted veterinary practices.

Conviction under this section does not require proof of intent or negligence."

While it's legal to hunt coyotes in Wisconsin, it is not legal to shoot  and kill someone's beloved dogs. Prosecute this hunter so that other coyote hunters will take enough time to determine if they are aiming at a coyote or a pet. I ask that you help prevent future heartache by acting on this case. The dog owner's heartache, and the trauma involved in watching both of her dogs shot - one dying immediately and the other after four days of hospitalization - requires legal action that only your office can bring.
