“London Calling” the historic album by the Clash, that rocked the music scene, should be formally commemorated with an Islington Council Green Plaque.

The groundbreaking “London Calling”  – was an album that changed the music scene forty years ago, serving as an anthem for London, Londoners and music lovers globally. The Clash became one of the most popular British bands of the 20th century following this landmark album.

The album was driven by a passion for action and a fierce desire for social justice and the groundbreaking music and lyrics remain as relevant today as they were on release.

It was recorded at the former Wessex Sound Studios located at 106a Highbury New Park, London, England, N5. Many renowned popular music artists in addition to the Clash recorded there, including the Sex Pistols, King Crimson Theatre of Hate, XTC, the Sinceros, Queen, TalkTalk, the Rolling Stones, Pete Townshend and The Damned.

So, 40 years after the album was released we feel that it should be commemorated. We call upon the freeholders of 106a Highbury New Park and Islington Council to work together and erect an Islington Council Green Plaque on this building to commemorate the 40 year anniversary of the release of this seminal album.
