Save our Rink!

Here we are again.... our beloved ice rink is being taken away from us :(

Destroying people's lives, dreams and opportunities. Playing host to some of the best synchronised skating teams in the country and awesome ice hockey teams ranging from under 9s all the way through to the NIHL Wightlink Raiders, Ryde Arena is a home to us all.

As many of you are aware on Thursday the 6th of October at 1:30am, BNY-Mellon sent Bailiffs to force entry into Ryde Arena and repossessed the building in response to an ongoing rent disputes. Ryde arena limited have attempted to have a reasonable negotiation with AEW who manage BNY-Mellon's pension fund, however have been ignored.

RAL have tried over the last 3 months through various channels to have a meaningful dialogue with AEW Europe and BNY Mellon regarding the rent and the lack of refurbishment of the Arena; all attempts have failed. Their default position has been to ask for full rent of £130,000 even though they have accepted a large cash settlement from the insurance company, to refurbish the areas of the rink that had been affected by the water damage. By not refurbishing the rink they are contravening their own lease responsibilities.

It has become clear in recent weeks that AEW/BNY Mellon (the landlords) have no interest in allowing us to run a not for profit facility for the community.

At this present time we would like to put on record our thanks to the loyal staff and the dozens of volunteers who have worked tirelessly in the last 18 months to keep the arena open, despite some of the cruellest setbacks possible. In addition our thanks also go to our customers, Ryde Town Council and the Isle of Wight Council for their support.

We are truly devastated that the island is losing this facility. At this stage we have no idea what the landlords plans are for the building. Clearly the landlord AEW/BNY Mellon still have the opportunity to see sense and discuss a solution that is acceptable to both parties and avoid yet another empty derelict building that serves no purpose to the community.

Please help us in trying to keep it open!
