Known for their crude humor, racist remarks, and distasteful comedy, the Wake Up Crew hit a new level of low during their radiothon on November 13, 2020. The “Tanks Fo’ Giving” radiothon, an effort initiated to raise donations for families in need, ironically turned into the punchline of a cruel joke with Hawaii’s own Paula Fuga at the receiving end. Fuga, a well-respected musician in Hawaii, shared her experience of childhood homelessness and having to resort to eating food out of the trash. The Wake Up Crew, staying true to their trashy roots, began to degrade Paula Fuga to the point of tears. Hawaii deserves better and we’re here to say that enough is enough.
This petition will be sent to the Island 98.5 station manager, all Hawaii news outlets, and to the Federal Communications Commission. We are asking that the Wake Up Crew and Island 98.5 be held accountable and reprimanded to the fullest extent.
