Alyssa Moreno started this petition to Isla Vista Foot Patrol

Isla Vista is a vibrant and compact .6 square miles, housing approximately 24,0000 people. Majority of the population are college students, enjoying and embracing the unique town. Isla Vista is known to be the epicenter of parties for the UC Santa Barbara campus. Music and socializing characterize the weekends of IV. While it has been this way for years, one thing that inhibits the city is the strictly enforced noise curfew.

In Section 40-2 of the Santa Barbara County Code of Ordinances, the noise ordinance can be summarized as amplified" noise which is "loud and unreasonable" that is "broadcast outside" of a residence is prohibited at night until 7am, starting at 12am (midnight) on Friday and Saturday and 10pm on all other days of the week. In other words, there is to be no noise past midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Many students and Isla Vista residents have expressed great frustration and disappointment, when a gathering must be shut down precisely at midnight. For this reason, I am petitioning for Isla Vista Foot Patrol to reevaluate and amend the noise ordinance in Isla Vista. I am requesting that the noise ordinance is pushed back one hour, from 12am to 1am, only on Fridays and Saturdays.

While recognizing that the reason for a noise curfew is to respect the neighborhood and control crime rates, Isla Vista residents and students of UC Santa Barbara deserve to enjoy their time and their stay, while they can. Sign this petition if you want the noise curfew in Isla Vista to be pushed back one hour, from 12am to 1am, only on Fridays and Saturdays!
