Police should give Isla Vista residents a 15 minute warning before towing their vehicle.
Unless a vehicle is a parked in a very obvious illegal spot and is a hazard that is causing traffic; Isla Vista residents should be given a 15 minute warning before their vehicle is towed away.
Due to the fact that Isla Vista is extremely populated, finding a parking spot can be quite the challenge at times; therefore a lot of residents will park in spots that may be considered illegal, but not hazardous. When a car is towed, the minimum cost to pick up your vehicle from a towing company is $300, and if it is on the weekend then the cost is $500. This is a very high cost in general, never-mind the fact that most of the people who are paying these absurd fee's are broke college students, who can barely pay their rent. Therefore, I believe that as long as the vehicle is not obstructing traffic or causing any hazards, the police should give the owner of the car that is being towed, a 15 minute warning before towing their vehicle.
They could give the warning by looking up the vehicles license plate, and then give the owner of the vehicle a call explaining to them that their car is about to be towed. If the owner of the vehicle still doesn't come and move the car after the 15 minutes, then the car should be towed.
