Ban plastic straws and single use plastics - City of Bunbury

The exact nature of this particular petition is to ban the use of plastic straws and single use plastics from events organised or sponsored by the City of Bunbury. Every year, globally, more than 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die from plastic pollution. As we live in a city surrounded by waterways with a large bottlenose dolphin population shouldn’t we take take action to mitigate the effect plastic pollution has had on these marine animals and sea birds in the past. Daily 500 million straws are used then thrown away, due to the type of plastic used to manufacture straws they can’t be recycled. Reducing the number of straws used and thrown away is one way to reduce the effect this rubbish has on the environment and the creatures that inhabit that environment.
