Mohammed Ali Al Kahi started this petition to Isaac Butterfield

In a scornful rebuke to New Zealand’s most vulnerable, a community who had experienced the most horrific terrorist attack in New Zealand history, killing 51 worshipers in the sanctity of their mosques – Butterfield found it appropriate to refer to these deaths as part of a comedic skit of the lowest calibre.

While it is beneath this petition to quote his exact words, Butterfield’s remarks were abhorrent, rude, insensitive, demeaning and vile – targeting victims who continue to mourn their loved ones.  What he achieved was a few cheap laughs from the audience, and a scarring of the victims and their families who continue to battle with Islamophobia and the dread of the repetition of massacres such as those seen at Christchurch.

We call for a public apology and an expression of regret, along with specific steps that will be taken to rectify the harm caused.

Butterfield, apologise and think about using ‘free speech’ to target the powerful elite, instead of the most powerless amongst us.

Isaac, we expect a public apology.
