When you take a closer look at what's going on in Manhattan Beach it starts to become clear that all the hoopla around coyotes is nothing more than a political stunt by a certain councilperson and her need for attention. At least that what seems to be the case since the biologist that was hired said the coyotes are not a threat to public safety. So what's the deal?

The deal is, a public official up for reelection who apparently has no issue with being divisive or disingenuous. When science doesn't support your agenda just make up alternative truths that do! Polarize and demonize is a popular strategy and it looks like Manhattan Beach is as vulnerable as any other city to the politics of demonization. The question is will the rest of the city council members allow it?

It seems Councilperson Hadley wants to win reelection at any cost. She has been called out before for being a science denier and for making misleading statements for political attention so it's not out of character for her ignore the science being presented or to ridicule the experts and to oppose anything that doesn't fit her agenda to trap and kill coyotes. The worst part about it is that it's exploiting those who have suffered the loss of a beloved pet. 

It seems Hadley has aligned herself with the Evict Coyotes group spearheaded by her political friend Aurelio Mattucci from Torrance. Like vultures the "Red Shirts" descend on communities where people have lost pets and they start spreading misinformation to rally the community against this imaginary monster-coyote they've fabricated with all of their lies. It's tilting at windmills.

We hope the rest of the city council sees that they are being misled to believe the coyote is some sort of animal that it is not and they are being misguided into thinking killing them works when it does not. We're hoping they will see through the ploys and gimmicks and this charade and listen to recommendations from the California Fish and Wildlife and Humane Wildlife Control.
