Fair withdrawal policy from Ironman
This petition had 169 supporters
Triathlon is immeasurably popular and growing in popularity. Full distance triathlon is the ultimate goal for many people and for many of these it is an Ironman branded event. It is a significant undertaking on many fronts, not least the financial element including the entry fee which is in the region of €450.
Many athletes feel that the Ironman refund policy is outdated and not in line with contemporary equivalent agreements. It is clearly possible and in the interests of many for this to change.
At the very least, when someone cannot fulfil their entry due to an injury then they should be able to defer on production of a medical certificate. To maintain integrity of the events individuals should not be able to sell or transfer entries, this would be a move in the wrong direction and create an informal "black market".
Athletes recognise the vast logistical challenges faced by the globally successful brand "Ironman". It is a pinnacle opportunity for many. It is also widely recognised that such a large scale organisation could conduct a review of their withdrawal and refund policy to modernise it and make it fundamentally fair for those who have genuine reason for withdrawal.
Whilst financially Ironman is evidently secure, losing an amount of money as large as the entry fee is simply not affordable for many people. This petition is designed to campaign for a review of the refund and withdrawal policy offered by Ironman, please sign and support to encourage this to happen.
