Why this petition matters

Started by emer galvin
  • Another day another story of a beautiful woman, sometimes a mother of beautiful children sometimes she herself a beautiful daughter taken. How can this be such a frequent occurrence in a so-called civilized society?

There are boundless statistics on women's aid website, one striking one is since 1996 to 2022 a staggering 244 women died violently in Ireland. This a direct result of physical violence, as we know the numbers can be way higher even as women often lose their lives as a secondary result violence. Let alone all the other horrible situations women find themselves in. Laws have changed with regard to coercive control, and this is welcome. Now it's long overdue time for laws to be changed regarding femicide.

I'm asking all readers to please sign and share and get others to sign to change the laws in Ireland. I mean laws were tweaked and updated in the pandemic to suit bars closing times etc., this I'm afraid is an epidemic that is far too common in Ireland. That a life for a life that 7 years is not a life for women taken violently in this country. I'm asking for laws to be changed to protect the lives of women to ensure the perpetrator will spend a minimum of 20 years behind cell bars. Please help me in this awareness campaign, I will send to the department of justice and Helen Mcentee. It stops here. I'm the mother of a beautiful girl, we are all aunts, sisters to beautiful girls. There is never an excuse to harm women. Please share, if you get one extra signature it will make a difference. If not now, then when? If you'd like to share ideas thoughts etc. I can adjust specifications of petition to better reflect this horrendous trend.
