Daniel Haines started this petition to Taoiseach (Irish Government) and

We want the Government of Ireland to commit to not rolling out any vaccination status/immunity passport to the Irish public. Such passports could be used to restrict the rights of people who have declined a Covid-19 vaccine, which would be unacceptable.

Coming towards the end of the pandemic, it is important the government takes steps towards restoring the normality of pre pandemic life, and the rolling back of powers which have (rightly or wrongly) allowed the government to interfere heavily in the lives of every Irish citizen to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Vaccine passports/certificates are a violation of an individual’s right to freedom of assembly, religion and expression.

They set precedent for an increasingly autocratic regime, similar to that of China, where the government ranks its citizens using a “Social Credit system” ; used to reward and punish citizens based on their scores (see: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-34592186 )

Implementation of vaccination passports would undoubtedly fabricate a pseudo apartheid society, discriminating not on grounds of race, but on the grounds of those who have been vaccinated and those who have not.

They would mandate that in order for a person to live a normal life they must surrender to the state their right to bodily autonomy.

Vaccination must be an informed decision made by each individual member of the public. Like every medicine, vaccines carry a small amount of risk, and any risk taken should be the free choice of said individual.  It would be unethical for the government to restrict an unvaccinated persons right to services/events.

A vaccination passport/certificate system would ensure that life would never truly return to normal.
