Calling on the government to establish a directly elected mayor for the city of Dublin

It is time for the people of Dublin to have their say in choosing a mayor for their city - a directly elected Mayor who would have real powers and a significant budget in order to shape the future of our city and our communities.
Dublin desperately needs a single, identifiable political leader who can speak on its behalf on the national and international stages, planning for the future, investing in our lives, and addressing the new and unique challenges which the city will face.
We are a non-politically aligned group of citizens calling on the government, and the Minister for Local Government Simon Coveney, to establish a directly elected mayor for Dublin. We are calling for a mayor with significant executive powers in areas such as transport and traffic, planning, tourism and culture, housing, waste management, economic development, and more. Responsibilities and funding for work in the Dublin region would be transferred from existing state bodies and ministries.
If you feel strongly about providing real leadership for Dublin, and choosing what direction your city moves in the future, please sign our petition to be submitted to the government.
