Lower School Parking Pass Prices

Lower School Parking Pass Prices
Waubonsie Valley High School's Student Parking Passes are charged at a high price of $150. The school only allows upper class men to park in the lot, therefore, the sophomores are only able to to park at a nearby church for $200. Prices should be lowered to a more affordable price, ideally, $50. Many students struggle to pay this fee and do not have the option to walk, take a bus or get a ride. Lowering the price of each pass gives more students the option to drive themselves to school. With cheaper prices, more students will want to purchase parking pass, it is probable that parking lot traffic would increase. Along with a lower price, the passes should also be changed to give seniors priority. Seniors should be allowed to purchase their passes and choose their spots one week prior to the juniors. The juniors and the seniors who missed the deadline would then be allowed to purchase the rest of the available passes. All remaining passes would continue to be purchased in a first come-first serve fashion. For the students who cannot pay the full price immediately, they should be given the opportunity to pay in small amounts; ex. paying $10-$20 each month. If the full amount is not payed off by the end of the year, there will still be a fine for those students charged through Push Coin, similar to textbook/Chromebook fines.
Lowering the prices of passes and giving the option of monthly payments would help more students commute to school, it especially helps students with financial difficulties or boundary disadvantages. Many students live in neighborhoods within a mile radius of the school, which means there are no buses available to bring from to and from school. When the weather changes students are forced to walk in freezing temperatures, pouring rain and snow. Many of these students do not have the ability to carpool with parents or friends but can't afford the $150 school parking pass. These students come to school freezing cold, soaking wet and overall miserable.
Overall, a cheaper parking pass would be more beneficial to students who can't afford the pass (in one payment or in general). The lesser amount not only improves student life but gives the seniors who have dealt with the ridiculous cost and conditions of the lot for years priority.
