Return to Original Virtual Learning Class Schedule for Student Mental Health

Return to Original Virtual Learning Class Schedule for Student Mental Health
Why this petition matters

In District 204, our school schedule and class times have been changed because the plan was to have the option to do in-person learning once we come back after Thanksgiving break. The schedule would allow in-person and zoom students to learn at the same time which is perfect. However, Covid-19 hasn't allowed us to use the option of in-person learning yet we still changed the schedule to make classes start earlier and last longer.
The simple solution is to return back to the hour long class periods that start at 8:30AM and end at 1:30PM. This way students will get an extra hour of sleep which is important for teenager´s health, and will ultimately make students more attentive in class. Also, once we know 100% that we are safe to do the option of in-person learning, we can easily use this longer schedule without problems but there is no sense in using an in-person schedule when we arent in person
The Covid-19 outbreak has created such uncertain times that we are all experiencing together. The truth that we dont like to admit is that we dont know when or if we are going to be able to go back to in-person learning. Whether you like it or not, this is our reality for the foreseeable future and the goal is to deal with however terrible these circumstances are without making life more miserable than it has to be. Please consider signing this petition if you believe that the later schedule is better for students health, especially during this stressful and uncertain time of a global pandemic. Being well rested will allow students to learn better and have the ability to better handle the stress and uncertainty that Covid brings.
Thank you for supporting and prioritizing student health and well-being! We can easily switch back to the earlier schedule once we do return to in person learning, but there is no reason to do it until then.
