It is extremely unfair to students of different cultural and religious backgrounds to make them attend school during their holidays. Oftentimes, these holidays fall during AP Testing, midterm exams, and have an impact on the students who are torn between celebrating and their academics. The school board needs to make room in the calendar for major religious holidays other than Christian ones: Eid Al-Fitr, Yom Kippur, Diwali, and the Lunar New Year. It is only fair that we incorporate other religious holidays into the calendar instead of solely observing Christian ones. Either we observe all holidays, or we observe none. 

The district should also give students at least two "free" days to use for religious holidays that aren't widely observed, but might be of particular importance to their family. 

This is a matter of student's First Amendment Rights, and this petition will encourage our school district to respect it's students right to practice religion.
