Iowans: Support Programs That End Tobacco Use

Youth and adult smoking rates have dropped dramatically in recent years and Iowa is now tied with California for 2nd lowest adult smoking rates in the country. But smoking is still the number one cause of preventable death in our state, killing 4,400 Iowans a year.
According the the Centers for Disease Control, a state the size of Iowa should spend $36.7 million on tobacco cessation and prevention programs. But the Iowa State Senate is only requesting $5.4 million - and the House is requesting less than one sixth of the recommend amount.
Iowans have spoken up and the majority of us agree - we need to make sure kids don't start smoking and we need to help those smokers quit. Each year, over 4,000 Iowans die from smoking - but they don't have to.
Don't let programs like Quitline Iowa fall apart - tell your Representative and Senator in the State House that you support tobacco cessation and prevention programs.
