The camps at the Iowa 4-H Center are vital to a camper's development. Here, campers build a sense of independence and adventure, whilst building one-on-one relationships with staff members, as well as strong and lasting friendships with fellow campers. Camp provides a safe environment for Iowa's youth to immerse themselves into nature and encourages them to lead a healthy lifestyle enjoying the outdoors. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach made this decision without warning and without discussion. We are asking for reconsideration of this decision and to continue summer 2013 as it had already been planned. The Iowa 4-H Center has 60 years of tradition going, and we'd simply like to continue on.

Letter to
2150 Beardshear Hall - Ames, IA 50011-2046 Iowa State University Extension and Outreach
Please reconsider your decision to cancel normal day and residential camps. 4-H and non-4-H youth who utilize this camp feel a tremendous impact on their lives due to the weeks spent here. Camps are important to the 4-H mission and should be available to all youth today and in the future. We understand budgets are tight, but canceling an important outreach effort seems counter-intuitive to the Extension goals. We look forward to working with ISU Extension and continuing the camp experience.
