Expanding Medical Cannabis Law
Expanding Medical Cannabis Law
Hello my name is Earl Ramey. I am a cannabis card holder. I would like to ask the board to consider options for existing cannabis patient card holders to be allowed to possess and produce their own product for personal consumption. Allowing patients to grow their own product would give easier access for those who cannot afford it. As the current product offered does not work with everyone’s affordability. Expanding laws and dressing up the current laws still does not change the fact that one without the extra income or no income at all can obtain the product without sacrificing other important cost in their daily life. This product is not covered under insurance. Each year the program expands to new patients. Please look at the renewals and see how many did not renew. After talking to a physician this year, I learned that many people dropped the program and not renewing their cards. Now they are back on the medication they originally complained about prior to trying the program due to affordability and the fact that their insurance covers the proscriptions. We all know and are aware of the different option for pain. It’s no secret that cannabis is a very good and more natural alternative. The plant is not harmful and needs to be considered in all forms. I would prefer a tea, oil, tincture or inhalants that I was aware of it’s nature and compound of which is 100% A seed, dirt, water and sunlight to create a natural herb that is not processed at a factory and way less harmless than some oils, lotion, tincture or inhalant now on the market.
What’s wrong with this form? The plant itself. THCA. Why isn’t it allowed in Iowa and why are other states able to adapt and do what we as Iowan’s are not allowed to do? The option offered are altered versions of the pure product. THCA is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in raw and live cannabis. Iowa allows it to be changed and altered from it’s natural state in other forms. For example: One form is vaping. If one was to ask”what’s the true differences of vaping or smoking?” Answer would be”none” both convert THCA to CBD and THC That is the bottom line.
What is wrong with patients having their own naturally grown remedy at their fingertips. We understand regulations for products that are shelved and sold. This would be personal consumption. Seems there’s a big difference in the two. If this was possible the Iowa Health Department would still obtain permit cost and continue their program on a much expanded program. We could only assume it would greatly increase the number of patients that renewed and seek the program as beneficial to them instead of a perk or those that can only afford it. Also it would help prevent those that are obtaining their product from neighboring states. As Iowans we need the Departments support for a good cause.
Is it the governors, manufacturers, doctors, law officers or lobbyists rules and regulations or can this be the Iowa’s State Health Departments discussion and decisions? What can we do to move forward? Even though laws are changing it isn’t to benefit those who can’t afford it and need it. Please consider for those who can’t afford and need the product.
