Rachel Suiter started this petition to Iowa Department of Education

The Iowa Department of Education determined it was acceptable to allow public school’s to choose a “required learning” option during the COVID-19 shutdown.

It is impossible for public schools to address the multiple hands on needs of every student with an IEP via distance learning.

Federal law requires public schools to provide a “Fair and Appropriate Public Education” to every child.

The accommodations these students are legally required to be provided by the school are not and cannot be provided via distance learning, therefore the schools are non compliant with federal law.

The Iowa department of education and every school district that chose the the required option was extremely short sighted and did not take into account every students situation. (Including low income and single parent homes)

Help me bring attention to this discrimination and unjust situation to ensure our special needs students are not put in this position again.

Together we can ensure that our kids with special needs are not left behind.
