End Iowa Caucuses Now
End Iowa Caucuses Now
As a life-long Democrat living in Iowa, I’ve had enough.
Caucus process is inherently unfair and we all have heard the criticisms:
Caucuses not accessible/available to those without child care, those working night shifts, those don’t have transportation to get to caucus site, those out of town at the date and time of the caucus.
They are not secret ballot: What if you have to stand up in front of your boss, your abusive spouse, your customers to support your candidate of choice?
They are not “one person, one vote”. Process denies delegates to all candidates deemed “not viable,” disenfranchising voters who supported those candidates. “Candidate A” may get many more supporters/“votes” at a caucus than “Candidate B” and yet both will be awarded the same number of delegates. “Candidate C” may have only 1 more supporter/“vote” than “Candidate D” at a caucus site and yet “C” will be awarded 1 delegate and “D” will be awarded none.
Demographics of Iowa are not representative of the country as a whole.
And now, on top of all of the above issues that have existed for several election cycles, the Iowa Democratic Party can’t report results.
End the Iowa Caucuses NOW.
No more caucus format. No more first in the nation.
